Preparation Determines the Finish
A durable cabinet finish starts with proper preparation. Before painting begins, cabinet surfaces are assessed for grease buildup, wear, previous coatings, and surface damage.
Preparation may include degreasing, light sanding, filling minor imperfections, caulking gaps, and conditioning surfaces so paint bonds evenly. Edges, profiles, and high-touch areas receive additional attention to reduce wear over time. Cabinet doors and drawer faces are removed to be prepped and painted in a separate working area. Hardware is also removed for a proper finish. We properly clean and prime surfaces prior to painting, and sand in between coats for an optimal finish.
Careful preparation helps prevent peeling, brush marks, and uneven sheen once the cabinets are back in use.
Preparation May Include:
- Cleaning with a degreasing solution
- Sanding before and between coats
- Filling and blending minor imperfections
- Removal of doors, drawer faces, and hardware
- Protection of work area and your home
